Why You're Making Your Job Search Harder Than It Needs To Be
The stuff you're doing that's actually holding you back
INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
This week’s hot & vetted remote roles
Where you're adding unnecessary friction
What actually needs to happen
How to simplify and move forward
Hi Freedom Seeker,
Most people make their job search way harder than it has to be.
Not because they're not smart. Not because they're not trying. But because they're adding layers of complexity that don't actually help.
They think more effort equals better results. So they optimize everything. Perfect their resume. Research companies obsessively. Prepare for every possible interview question. Customize every application to death.
And then nothing happens. Because they're spending all their energy on the wrong things.

THE UNNECESSARY COMPLEXITY
They spend weeks perfecting their resume when a good one would've worked fine three weeks ago.
They research companies like they're writing a thesis when five minutes of basic info is all that matters.
They prepare answers to 50 interview questions when they'll probably only get asked five.
They customize their cover letter for every single job when half the jobs don't even read cover letters.
They follow up multiple times hoping someone will respond when one brief follow-up is all that's needed.
They obsess over every rejection trying to figure out what went wrong when most rejections aren't about them at all.
They wait to apply because they're not quite ready yet. But they'll never be "ready." They just keep waiting.
WHAT THIS COSTS YOU
Time. Tons of it. Hours spent on things that don't move you closer to an interview.
Energy. You get burnt out because you're trying so hard on stuff that doesn't matter.
Momentum. You apply to three jobs because each one took three hours. Someone else applied to 15 because they didn't overcomplicate it.
Clarity. The more you think about it, the more confused you get. The simplest approach usually works best.
Results. Because you're not actually applying to enough jobs or your applications are late to the game.
WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS
A resume that shows results. Not perfect. Just clear. One achievement per job. That's it.
Reading the job posting. Actual thought about whether you want it. Then applying.
Following up once after interviews. Brief. Professional. Then moving on.
Applying consistently. Not obsessively. Just... steady. Every week. Five to ten good applications.
Letting go of the stuff you can't control. Budget freezes. Internal candidates. Companies changing their minds. None of that's about you.
Being honest about whether you actually want the job. Not applying just to apply.
WHAT I ACTUALLY SEE
The people who land jobs aren't the ones who prepared the most. They're the ones who applied to the most good jobs without burning themselves out.
They didn't perfect everything. They just... did it. Sent their resume. Applied. Interviewed. Moved forward.
They didn't overthink it. They understood the basics and then just executed.
Simple. Consistent. Not perfect.
THE THING NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR
You're probably making this way harder than you need to. And the irony is... that's making it worse, not better.
The complexity isn't helping you. It's just exhausting you.
