Why Most People Give Up Right Before It Works

The timing problem nobody sees coming

INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

  • This week’s hot & vetted remote roles

  • Where people actually quit

  • What happens right after they give up

  • Why persistence actually matters

Hi Freedom Seeker,

I've noticed something that keeps happening. Someone searches for a few months. Nothing clicks. They get frustrated. They decide job searching isn't working.

So they stop. Take a break. Maybe try again later.

Then two weeks later, they would've gotten an interview from something they applied to weeks ago.

This happens more than you'd think. And it's frustrating to watch because they were actually close.

HOW THIS ACTUALLY WORKS

You apply to a job. The company receives 200 applications. They're not looking at them immediately. They're still accepting applications. Still reviewing. Still deciding how to prioritize.

Two weeks later they start actually screening. Three weeks later they're calling people for interviews.

By that time, you've already given up. You stopped applying. You decided it wasn't working.

But the interview call comes anyway. And you're not there anymore.

THIS HAPPENS MORE THAN YOU THINK

Someone applies to ten jobs. Hears nothing after two weeks. Decides ten jobs wasn't enough so they apply to 30 more in one week and burn out.

Someone's been searching for six weeks. No interviews yet. Starts wondering if they're actually qualified. Takes a week off to "regroup." Comes back with no momentum.

Someone makes it to a second interview. Doesn't hear back for ten days. Assumes they bombed it. Stops applying to other jobs while waiting. Finally gets rejected. Now they're three weeks behind.

Someone applies to a job they're really interested in. Doesn't hear anything for a month. Gives up on that company. Then gets called for an interview... and isn't interested anymore because they moved on mentally.

WHY THIS HAPPENS

Job searching feels like it should work on a timeline. Like "if I do X, I get Y in Z days."

But it doesn't work that way. Hiring is slow and unpredictable. Companies move at their own pace. Some take weeks between interview rounds. Some ghost you forever. Some call you months later out of nowhere.

So when nothing happens in the timeframe people expect... they think it's not working. So they quit.

But they're just quitting too early. Before the process actually catches up to their effort.

THE WEIRD PART

The people who land jobs aren't usually the ones who tried harder. They're the ones who kept trying longer.

Not obsessively. Not desperately. Just... consistently. They applied to jobs. They waited. They kept applying while they waited. And eventually something hit.

It sounds simple. But it requires patience. And patience is hard when you're frustrated.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS

If you keep applying consistently, eventually the interview calls start coming. Usually around week 6-8 if you're doing it right.

If you give up at week 4 because nothing's happened yet, you never find out what would've happened at week 7.

The timing matters. But most people don't understand how much.

NEED HELP STAYING THE COURSE?

The 1:1 Job Search Partnership is built to keep you moving when you want to quit.

We help you understand realistic timelines. We keep you applying when it feels like nothing's working. We help you know the difference between "stuck" and "in process."

Here's what we do:
✅ Set realistic expectations for timing
✅ Keep you consistent when it feels pointless
✅ Help you recognize progress that's happening
✅ Support you through the waiting periods

Reply with "Application" and let's make sure you don't quit right before it works.

Until next week,
Sami

P.S. Most people fail at job searching because they quit too early. Not because they're not qualified. Not because the market's impossible. Because they stopped right before something was about to happen. Don't be that person.
